Today’s sentence Hello again. How are you today? Here’s the last in the current series on military-type expressions often used in the business world. I think that merging with them could be a real minefield. Notes Merging means joining. When two companies join together they merge. A minefield? In a war, a minefield is an area which has bombs buried in the ground. You step on one and it blows up / explodes. So, figuratively, if something is a minefield it’s a dangerous thing to do with lots of hidden problems which may appear at any moment. Today’s sentence Hi – how’s it going? Here’s the latest in the revision series on the future tense. He might have to move to New York if he gets the job. Notes Might. Do you remember yesterday’s sentence? (I may visit my sister in Rome this summer.) May is used to express a future possibility. Might is exactly the same. It’s, perhaps, 50% certain that he’ll have to move to New York. Today’s sentence is an example of the first conditional. If + present tense + will / might / may + infinitive.
